Status Effects
About | List of Status Effects

Tap a character's "In Effect" icons to view more buff and debuff information. Tap an enemy's HP bar to view its buff and debuff information.
A list of status effect and explanations. Some icons are used to represent multiple different statuses. In general, if two effects have different icons and effect names, they can be used simultaneously for greater effect.

Buffs and debuffs that are the exact same effect will typically replace or overwrite each other. When using Fighter's Rage I and Warrior's Rage II at the same time, Rage II will overwrite an existing Rage I, but Rage I will have no effect on an existing Rage II. Using Rage II again will simply overwrite the old Rage II effect. However, some skills are what is colloquially known a "dual skill," which cause effects that stack with other non-dual (single) effects. The best example of this is Dark Fencer's Miserable Mist, which stacks with Sidewinder's Rain of Arrows III, causing enemies to reach the maximum Attack Lowered value of -50%.

Buffs and debuffs with "(stackable)" in the name will increase in effect every time they are applied as the name implies, up to a certain limit, while also returning to the original duration, if applicable. Bounty works the same way, although it also becomes harder to add more stacks the higher it already is.

The duration of most status effects is either expressed in battle turns or seconds of real time. For the most part, effects on the player's party have a turn-based duration while effects on enemies are time-based. Exceptions to the latter usually have an icon with a number displaying the remaining number of turns and tend to be what's often called a "local" effect.

Glossary[edit]

  • Buffs
For example
Status AttackUp.pngATK UpATK is boosted
,
Status DefenseUp.pngDEF UpDEF is boosted
, and
Status TripleUp.pngTA UpTriple attack rate is boosted
.
No known cap.
  • Debuffs
For example
Status AttackDown.pngATK DownATK is lowered
,
Status DefenseDown.pngDEF DownDEF is lowered
, and
Status Gravity.pngGravitySpecial attack max charge turn is extended
.
See DEF Down / ATK Down Caps below for cap info.
  • Dual and Single
Used to indicated whether (de)buffs stack with eachother.
This terminology was used due to skills that buff/debuff one attribute (Single), were able to stack with skills that buff/debuff two attributes (Dual).
While this is frequently the case, many exceptions exist now and is currently only used to indicate stacking possibilities.
  • Single
Only one single effect can be active at a time. Stronger effects overwrite weaker ones. If you try to apply a weaker effect you'll get a "NO EFFECT" message.
Single effects can applied together with dual effects.
  • Dual
Only one dual effect can be active at a time. Stronger effects overwrite weaker ones. If you try to apply a weaker effect you'll get a "NO EFFECT" message.
Dual effects can applied together with single effects.
  • Unique
Some skill effects exist outside the standard Skill / Summon / Element + Single / Dual rules.
These skills can usually be applied together with all other buffs and debuffs.
However, there are exceptions and even occasional bugs that prevent some effects from being applied at the same time.
  • Source
Skills differ based on the source. There are Skill, Summon, C.A., Element and Unique.
Skill refers to player and ally skills.
Summon refers to Summon Call skills.
C.A refers to Weapon Charge Attack skills
Element refers to Skill and Summon effects that are Element specific, such as
Status FireAtkUp.pngFire ATK UpFire ATK is boosted
.
  • Side
Refers to single or dual effects.
  • Local
Refers to enemy buffs and debuffs that are exclusive to player's fight such as Ultimate Bahamut's
Status Ruination Ray 1.pngRuination RayDeals 3-hit plain DMG to an ally each turn
or Grea's
Local effects are signified by having a diamond-shaped status icon rather than a circle shape.

  • Half Turns
Some buffs or debuffs on this wiki may have a listed duration of x.5 Turns.
These are applied during the attack phase of a turn and only affect allies and/or enemies who perform their attack after gaining the effect.
Refresh and turn-based damage applied during the attack phase which have their effect on the turn transition are also labeled as x.5 Turns.

Notes[edit]

Note to editors[edit]

When adding a skill to the status strength tables please only add it at its highest level (+ or ++). Only add multiple version for exceptionally rare 5★, such as the Eternals.

If no information is available on the final strength of the skill please add the base version with a note
1Strength of boosted version unknown.
.

When adding new skills please provide a source in the summary or on the talk page unless the source is this wiki.

Effect stacking[edit]

Multiple effects of the same source and side can't be applied at the same time.
Stronger effects will overwrite weaker ones and weaker effects will "Miss" or have "No effect".

Overwriting effects[edit]

Stronger or equally strong effects of the same type and source will overwrite each other.
If you overwrite an effect with an equally strong effect the duration will be overwritten too (not extended).

DEF Down / ATK Down Caps[edit]

Defense Down effects together can't surpass 50%. If you apply Anti-Reversal + (
Status DefenseDown.png30% DEF DownDEF is lowered

Strength: 30%
single skill), Miserable Mist (
Status DefenseDown.png25% DEF DownDEF is lowered

Strength: 25%
dual skill), and Odin (
Status DefenseDown.png20% DEF DownDEF is lowered

Strength: 20%
single summon) you'll reach a total of 75%
Status DefenseDown.pngDEF DownDEF is lowered
but it'll be capped down to 50%. Some skills and abilities may give
Status DefenseUp.pngDEF UpDEF is boosted
(note, not DMG Cut). These are simply added to the formula. As an example, in Unite and Fight the Behemoth type enemies have a
Status DefenseUp.png20% DEF UpDEF is boosted

Strength: 20%
, so using the debuffs above and the Behemoth's DEF Up: 75% DEF Down + 20% DEF Up = 55% DEF Down, but you'll still hit the 50% DEF Down cap.

Elemental Defense Down shares the 50% cap with regular Defense Down, but is of course only applicable for that element. Clarisse's Nano Analyze gives both
Status DefenseDown.png25% DEF DownDEF is lowered

Strength: 25%
(single skill) and
Status FireResDown.png15% Fire DEF DownDEF is lowered for fire DMG

Strength: 15%
(single skill). Combine that with Odin (
Status DefenseDown.png20% DEF DownDEF is lowered

Strength: 20%
single summon) you'll reach a total of 45% DEF Down with non-fire attacks, and 50% with fire attacks (25% + 15% + 20% = 60% capped to 50%). If you were fighting a Behemoth in this case, fire attacks would enjoy a 40% DEF Down and non-fire attacks would see a 25% DEF Down.

ATK Down functions similarly to DEF Down, but there is a separate 50% cap for regular ATK Down and Elemental ATK down. A foe who is afflicted with
Status FireAtkDown.png10% Fire ATK DownFire ATK is lowered

Strength: 10%
and
Status AttackDown.png50% ATK DownATK is lowered

Strength: 50%
,
would effectively have a 55% ATK Down1 - 0.9 * 0.5 = 0.55
55% ATK Down

Or in terms of damage taken:
ATK * 0.9 * 0.5 = ATK * 0.45
45% Damage Taken
for fire attacks.

Notes:

5★ Feower can apply
Status Forfeit.pngForfeitDMG taken is boosted / DMG dealt is lowered
which is the first debuff that allows breaking the 50% DEF Down cap.

DEF Down effects applied to characters function the same way they do on monsters; they cap at 50%.
Damage Cut effects are not part of the DEF Up/DEF Down formula and thus are not part of the 50% cap.

Buffs[edit]

Buffs are status effects that are generally considered beneficial to the afflicted.

Status DoubleUp.png Status TripleUp.png DA Up and TA Up[edit]

For a more complete list of DA Up and TA Up buffs and their strengths see the attack rate page.

Buffs in each column do not stack with buffs in the same column, but do stack with buffs from a different column.
Unique buffs are an exception and do stack with other unique buffs.

Normal buffs are typically party wide buffs from character abilities that use the normal

icon.
Self buffs are typically buffs from an ability that only affect the caster that use the normal
Status DoubleUp.pngDA UpDouble attack rate is boosted
or

icon.

Unique buffs are typically buffs that have their own special icon.

Notes

  • Double Trouble's Main Character only buff fits into the self buff column.

While its spear effect fits into the unique column, different levels of the spear effect do not stack with each other.

  • Abilities that "boost multiattack rate" apply two buffs, a DA Up and a TA Up, and therefore can overwrite/be overwritten by single DA Up or TA Up effects from the same type of source

(ex. Using Sky Realm Song after Amira's Bal Sagoth will overwrite its DA Up buff).

Status Veil.png Veil[edit]

Immune to debuffs

Veil is a buff that grants immunity to the next debuff that would be inflicted.
It may resist multiple debuffs if they are all inflicted at once.
For the duration-based version, see
Status Veil.pngImmuneRemove active debuff effect
.

For a list of all sources of veil see the veil page.

Status Veil.png Immune[edit]

Immune is a buff that grants immunity to all debuffs (except self-inflicted debuffs) for a set duration.
For the durationless version, see
Status Veil.pngVeilDebuffs will be nullified (1 time)

"Veil" is an unofficial name used by the wiki for this status effect. Its actual in-game name is "Immune."

For a list of all sources of Immune see the Immune page.

Status Substitute.png Substitute[edit]

Receives one-ally attacks in place of an ally

Substitute is a buff that causes a character to receive one-ally attacks in the place of an ally.
Substitute works on attacks with multiple hits, but not attacks that hit all allies

For a list of all substitute skills see the substitute page.

Status Hype4.png Hype[edit]

ATK is boosted.

Hype is an ATK boost status effect that can stack up to 4 times.
The ATK boost rises significantly with higher stack levels.

Hype has a unique ATK boost modifier and stacks with all other ATK buffs.

  • Hype can grant up to an initial 4 stacks if the target does not have any existing Hype stacks. Any source that can grant Hype has this characteristic. Initial Hype chances are weighted more towards lower stack levels.
  • If a target already has 1 to 3 stacks of Hype, applying another Hype source will only increase the stack by 1.
  • If Hype is granted with a longer turn duration, it will overwrite the duration of an existing Hype.
  • Conversely, if Hype is granted with a shorter turn duration, it will not overwrite the duration of an existing Hype.

For a list of all Hype skills see the Hype page.

The HP of the shield cannot be restored by any means except by using Kirari's call which enhances the shield. If multiple shields are used, only the one with the highest HP value takes effect.

Status Defiance.png Salted Wound[edit]

Also known as "Break Assassin." Team-wide Break Assassin buffs will stack with Self Break Assassin buffs as it appears in the status list, but only the one with higher multiplier takes effect (e.g. Esser - Ten-Wolf's Triumph and Halloween Ferry - Persistive Augmentation both stack with Esser - The Final Order, Ushumgal - Resonance, and Thief Class Line - Crack Shot I/II/III). Both are also used up on the same action.

Debuffs[edit]

Debuffs are status effects that are generally considered detrimental to the afflicted.

When attempting to inflict debuffs on enemies, there is a natural success rate based on the element of the character with the skill and the enemy. Strong element has the highest natural success rate (but not 100%), followed by neutral elements, then weak element, and last, same element. To reiterate, the same element as the enemy has the lowest debuff success rate of all elements. If inflicting debuffs with Dark Fencer is important to your overall strategy, the overwhelming recommendation is to use a strong-element main hand regardless of whether you get weapon/summon bonuses or not.

Self-inflicted debuffs from abilities generally cannot fail and are not preventable by Veil.

Some enemies (mostly bosses) are completely immune to some debuffs (indicated by "Resist" when using them) and grow increasingly more resistant to other debuffs the more they are used on them.
