Reward Chests
When a foe is defeated, it may drop chests from its Drop Table; each chest on the table has a drop rate and loot list:
- The drop rate (0.01% - 100%) determines if the chest drops (ie. some chests drop very rarely; others may drop every time)
- The loot list is the list of possible items the chest contains (eg. Low Orb, High Orb, Rupees)
The game rolls twice for each individual chest:
- First: whether or not the chest drops (Yes/No)
- If yes: which item the chest contains (one item on the chest's loot list)
Most chests have internal drop rates, causing some items on their loot list to drop more or less often. As a result, some items are rare due to the rarity of the chest that contains them, while others are rare outcomes from common or even guaranteed chests. The main difference between them is that the former can benefit from drop rate boosts.
Contents
Types of Chests
Normal Chests appear as Wooden, Silver, or Gold depending item contained in the chest.
Red Chests are guaranteed drops for certain players in Raid and Co-op battles:
- Host chest (awarded to the player who started/hosted the battle)
- MVP chest (awarded to the player who gained the most honors)
Vice-MVPs (players who gained 2nd or 3rd most honors; certain raids have this requirement boosted to 4th, 5th, and 6th most honors) receive more varied rewards
Blue Chests are rewarded based on contribution. Getting more honors during the raid linearly increases the drop rate. Blue Chest are available in various raids, such as Grand Order (Raid), Proto Bahamut (Impossible), Impossible Omega Raids, Impossible Omega II Raids, The Four Primarchs (Impossible), Akasha (Raid) and Lucilius (Raid).
During Extra Drop Events, Purple Chests can also be awarded in specific raids. Much like Blue Chests, Purple Chest drop rate is based on honors earned and can have a internal drop rate that is different from Red, Blue, and other chests. Not all affected raids during Extra Drop Events have Blue Chests.
- Since these events usually also double all chests for the host, they will receive two Purple Chests as well if they qualify.
Drop Rate Boosts
Drop rate boosts have no effect on which item you receive from a given chest, only whether or not a chest appears.
The table below contains all verified drop rate boosts. Optimal boosts have been highlighted for quick reference.

Mechanics
As drop rate boosts only affect the chance a chest will drop, guaranteed chests (including Host and MVP chests) do not benefit from drop rate boosts at all. Chest contents are unaffected by drop rate boosts.
Drop rate boosts are multiplied against the base drop rate of a chest. A 1.5x drop rate boost would cause a chest with a base 2% chance of dropping to instead have a 3% chance to drop.
When farming items with higher base drop rates, drop rate boosts have a more noticeable short-term impact, but they can be equally (if not more) valuable for farming rarer items over a large number of attempts. Either way, drop rate boosts are especially valuable when leeching, as the majority of drops will come from non-guaranteed chests rather than Red chests.
The Drop Rate Boost Formula is as follows:[4][5]
(1 + Weapon Skill + Main Summon Aura + Friend Summon Aura + Tien + Dragon Bar V) * (1 + Crew buff) * (1 + Journey Drop buff) * (1 +Bounty) = Drop rate multiplier
So the best theoretical drop rate boost would be:
(1 + 0.1 (5★ Damascus Knife) + 0.30 (4★ Kaguya (Summon)) + 0.30 (4★ Kaguya (Summon)) + 0.1 (5★ Tien)+ 0.03 (SL10 Dragon Bar V)) * (1 + 0.2 (Lvl 3 Weather Vane)) * (1 + 0.2 (during double JD)) * (1 + 0.7 (BH10)) = 4.48x
Drop Rate Boost Cap
Even though a boost of 4.419x is theoretically possible, the Drop Rate Boost multiplier is capped at 3x. Thus a base 1% drop rate can at most be boosted to 3%. [6][7]
Because anything past 3x is wasted, one can skimp on some boosts:
3 / (Bounty * JD * Crew) = additional multiplier needed from equippables (weapons, summons, characters)
3 / (Bounty 9 * JD * Crew) 3 / (1.5 * 1.1 * 1.2) = 1.52x needed from equippables 3 / (Bounty 9 * JDx2 * Crew) 3 / (1.5 * 1.2 * 1.2) = 1.39x needed from equippables
Some example combinations of equippables needed to reach cap based on above examples:
1.52x needed: 1 + 0.30 (Kaguya 4★) + 0.25 (Kaguya 3★) = 1.55x 1 + 0.25 (Kaguya 3★) + 0.25 (Kaguya 3★) + 0.05 (Oliver) = 1.55x 1 + 0.25 (Kaguya 3★) + 0.25 (Kaguya 3★) + 0.03 (Dragon Bar V) = 1.53x 1 + 0.20 (Kaguya 0★) + 0.20 (Kaguya 0★) + 0.1 (Tien) + 0.03 (Dragon Bar V) = 1.53x 1 + 0.20 (Kaguya 0★) + 0.15 (Rabbit) + 0.1 (Tien) + 0.05 (Oliver) + 0.03 (Dragon Bar V) = 1.53x 1.39x needed: 1 + 0.30 (Kaguya 4★) + 0.1 (Tien) = 1.4x 1 + 0.25 (Kaguya 3★) + 0.1 (Tien) + 0.05 (Oliver) = 1.4x 1 + 0.20 (Kaguya 0★) + 0.20 (Kaguya 0★) = 1.4x 1 + 0.15 (Rabbit) + 0.15 (Rabbit) + 0.1 (Tien) = 1.4x and so on...

Vice-MVP Rewards
The Vice-MVPs (players with 2nd and 3rd highest honors or 2nd to 6th highest honors depending on the raid) in a raid receive either:
- A copy of the red MVP chest:
- A unique Vice-MVP chest which drops one normal (non-Host/MVP) chest from the drop table:
- The exact chest is selected by rolling for each chest in order (see diagram) using their regular drop rate.
- Because of that, the selection process will never go beyond a chest that is guaranteed to drop.
- This drop rate is affected by drop rate boost.
- The exact chest is selected by rolling for each chest in order (see diagram) using their regular drop rate.
In short: Vice-MVPs can potentially receive almost anything on the drop table except the Host chest.
Blue Chests
Blue Chests, also called special loot chests, are a type of reward chest awarded based on raid contribution. Unlike the MVP and Vice-MVP chests, a Blue Chest doesn't require a high ranking in the raid. Instead, its drop rate is proportional to the amount of honor obtained. It starts at a 10% chance at 1 honor, and increases linearly up to a ~100% chance once a certain amount of honors is earned. This amount of honors depends on the raid, and is a fraction of the total honor obtained by all participants in the raid:
- For Impossible Omega Raids, approximately 18.5% of the total contribution to the raid is needed.[12]
- For Impossible Omega II Raids, approximately 8% of the total contribution to the raid is needed.[13]
- For Akasha (Raid), approximately 12.5% of the total contribution to the raid (~1,500,000 honors) is needed.[14]
Because most honors are obtained by dealing damage, the required amount is usually close to that percentage of the boss HP, divided by 100. However, that value can increase, as canceling Omens, raid-wide buffs, debuffs and healing contribute towards honors. Bosses can also have "optional" HP when there are multiple targets that are not necessary to kill, such as Tiamat Impossible or Grand Order (Raid).
Proto Bahamut (Impossible)'s drop rates are not calculated linearly like other Raids and follow a different plot, changing slope at 10% of honors. For Gold Brick farming, 10% of the honors in PBHL is enough to overtake Akasha's drop rate.
Purple Chests
During Extra Drops Events, bonus loot will drop from purple treasure chests, which will have an increased drop rate based on one's honors obtained in a raid. Not all raids are eligible for bonus loot.
Unlike MVP loot, all participants in a raid will have a chance to obtain bonus loot. The host of a raid can get up to two bonus loot chests, while other participants can get a max of one.
Bonus loot chests can contain different items than host, MVP, and blue chests.

Flip Chests
Some item drops (usually high-quality treasures or SSR items) result in a special animation: a gold chest that performs a little flip under a rainbow while playing a special sound.
- Contrary to popular belief, flip chests are not separate types of chests and do not even necessarily represent rare drops
- Some chests (such as those containing
SSR Omega Weapons) do only contain items that result in the flip animation (causing the above misconception), but many chests contain some items which will result in a flip and others which will not (see example table below)
- For a list of some items which result in the flip animation, see Flip Chest Contents
- Blue and Purple Chests can also flip, indicating that it contains a drop on the list of flip drops. Red chests don't flip regardless of their contents.
Share Chests are awarded to the Host (Discoverer) of certain raids (such as Grand Order and HL Proto Bahamut).
- A Share Chest has up to three slots; each slot rolls to determine which (if any) items are available.
- Some slots are not guaranteed to have an item every time. Drop rate boosts do not affect the chance.
- The host and each member of their crew who participated in the battle may select one available item to roll on.
- If nobody from the host's crew participates in the battle, the host can still select an item from the share chest.
- Player rolls range from 1-999 and cannot tie; whoever rolls highest on an item receives it. Roll values are also random and have no correlation to raid honors.
- The Share Chest lasts 10 minutes or until all players have rolled, at which point remaining items are forcibly distributed or discarded.
- A player cannot receive more than one item even if some items are unclaimed.
- A player cannot be part of more than one raid with a Share Chest active at a time.
- Due to the material cost of hosting raids with Share Chests, it is usually considered bad etiquette to roll against the host unless explicitly invited.
- Players can pass on Share Chest contents if no items are desired or an item was rolled for by mistake.
Tenacity Loot
A portion of the loot from raids that are unable to be cleared or are retreated from can be obtained as tenacity loot.
The probability of tenacity loot dropping will increase based on the number of honors obtained.
- The probability of tenacity loot dropping won't exceed normal drop rates.
- Effects that increase item drop rates, like
BountyItem drop rate is boosted
, won't apply to tenacity loot. - It is possible to exceed 100% honors, such as from enemies that heal.
- Exceeding 100% honors does not award additional chests beyond what is normally available.
Tenacity loot can't be obtained when Ascendant Prayer is active.
Possible Tenacity Drops
Most chests, including Host chest, are valid as tenacity loot except:
- MVP chests
- Special loot, such as Blue Chests and tie-ins from certain Collaboration Events
- Campaign loot, such as Purple Chests
- Loot not obtained from chest drops, such as Share Chest loot and tokens
Valid Tenacity Raids
All raids (including co-op quests) except:
- Rage of Super Ultimate Bahamut
- Hexachromatic Hierarch
- The most recent high difficulty raid: Hexachromatic Hierarch (Raid)
- Tenacity loot may become obtainable from this raid when another high difficulty raid is added in a future update.
Reading Drop Tables
It is often difficult to tell in-game what a chest contains (or even which chest dropped). Drop tables help demystify which items are guaranteed, rare, or compete with one another, which is useful for better projecting acquisition rates for particular items or the usefulness of drop rate boosts for particular battles.
- Enemies without sufficient chest-specific drop data have drops sorted by chest aesthetic (Wooden, Silver, Gold, Red)
- The sample drop table below is from Grand Order (Raid):

Analysis
- Chests 1-3 always drops.
- Chest 4 always drops and contains an
Azure Feather.
- Chest 5 drops most of the time and contains an
Azure Feather or a Tier 1 Summon Anima.
- The Host and MVP chest each contain only one item, meaning the Host always gets 2
Silver Centrums and the MVP always gets a
Heavenly Horn.
Conclusions
- 4 chest drops are guaranteed, and contain a guaranteed
Azure Feather.
- Drop rate boosts only increase the drop rate of
Azure Feathers and Tier 1 Summon Anima.
Drop rate values
Tables will often have drop rate values listed.
When there is a large sample of data a percentage may be given but most of the time a vaguer term will be used:
Label | Rough drop rate |
---|---|
100% | Guaranteed drop |
Likely | 70% - 99% |
Common | 35% - 70% |
Uncommon | 15% - 35% |
Very Uncommon | 7% - 15% |
Rare | 3% - 7% |
Very rare | 1% - 3% |
Extremely Rare | <1% |
